John's Story

John Crawford joined the Army in 2002 after the attacks on our country during 9/11. John medically retired in 2019 with service-related injuries after 17 years in the Army. He retired as a Major in the Army. In that time, he deployed to:

  • Baghdad Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003)
  • 2nd Deployment to Baghdad Iraq (2004)
  • Awarded the Army Commendation Medal when the Humvee he was riding in was bombed. While injured himself, John issued lifesaving support to the driver of the Humvee
  • Afghanistan (Kandahar) with the 7th Group Special Forces as the Forward Support Company Commander during Operation Enduring Freedom (2012)
  • Awarded the Bronze Star Medal for exceptionally meritorious service in support of mission success for the Special Operations Task Force
  • Seoul Korea as a Contracting Management Officer with the 719th Contracting Team (2016)
  • His last deployment was to Puerto Rico as a Contracting Officer in response to Hurricane Maria. Distinguished awards/medals:
  • Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 awards) o Army Commendation Medal (6 awards)
  • Army Achievement Medal (2 awards) o Iraq Campaign Medal with Three Campaign Stars o Army Good Conduct Medal
  • National Defense Service Medal

  • Global War on Terrorism Service Medal
  • Korea Defense Service Medal
  • Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star
  • Humanitarian Service Medal
  • Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon

  • BA in Criminal Justice from Eastern Michigan University

Currently John Crawford is a civilian Contract Administrator working at Naval Aviation Schools command (NAS) Pensacola. He married Mikki Crawford in 2019. He is a Christian family man and loving stepfather to three children: Jack McDonald -Senior at UWF studying Business. Dan McDonald – Junior at West Florida Baptist Academy Maci McDonald –attends 8th grade at Sims Middle school.
